Description
So, this is a Red-Bellied Black Snake (Pseudechis porphyriacus) from the Australian Reptile Park in Gosford, Australia. They are one of Australias many elapids, meaning they are venomous (though their venom is not often fatal), and are found in woodlands, scrub and swamps in eastern Australia.
When I was a kid growing up I was always warned about how dangerous these beautiful snakes can be. Frequently we'd find them down the local creek, and avoid them as best we could.
This one, however was being so beautiful and so interactive that I couldn't resist taking many many photographs of it. While my partner and myself were standing there looking for the snake we noticed it climbing the tree in it's enclosure (something we didn't know these guys did). It travelled up the tree and out onto a branch near the edge of the open enclosure, stopping to "taste" the air about 40cm away from where my camera, and my face were. Such an amazing sight.
Anyway, hope you like this, and the other three photos, of this truly beautiful animal.

Just spotted one myself a couple of weeks back in Callala Bay on the South Coast NSW why walking have no idea why I photoed it but I did thankfully it left me alone still would never do again. Still makes no sense why I photoed it when I am scared of snakes. Great shot by the way.
