Vision of the Gods

So this is my attempt to make some art for the Axis Trilogy by Sara Douglass. A great series of books, full of interesting ideas and well written but definitely lacking in fan art so I figured I'd make some for this.
Sometimes known as the People of the Wing the Icarii possess many features given to them by their father, The Sparrow, and their mother, The Enchantress. Keen of sight, possessing beautiful feathered wings, fine of feature and attuned with the natural rhythms of life the Icarii are known to be incredibly beautiful, graceful and artistic beings. With fine features, such as high cheekbones and what I imagined to be pointed, hawklike noses, I felt the Icarii were of an alien beauty, rather than being beautiful in a traditional sense.
Once ruling all of the lands of Tecendor the Icarii were driven back to their high mountains by the Acharites, or the humans of the world, to live in isolation for just over a thousand years until they are freed from their inflicted isolation by the hero of the story. The subject of this picture is of a female warrior from the period after the Icarii were freed from their unwanted imprisonment, probably still during the events of the trilogy, praying to the gods (and one in particular given the blazing blood red sun on the back wall) for guidance.
